company policies regarding performance reviews.

i recently got my first review with a new employer. it was a good review, but i was somewhat puzzled by my supervisor's reaction to my request for a copy of the review. my supervisor told me that he was not allowed to give me a copy due to the company's confidentiality policy. he told me no employee was allowed to have a copy of their review. is this legal? it might be, but it seems unfair to me. i have been told by co-workers the company has a history of letting people go on their 89th day due to "performance issues". i wanted a copy of my good review in case this were to happen to me. any thoughts?
