employer handbook rules against my second job | |
i work for a company gives services to mentally challenge people since march 2006 . i am a great employee.driver and skills coach. clean record. i am disabled due to arthirits. last year i try to ask for accomodations and was hard ..they even change the driver manuals due to me asking (of course they say did not have to do anything with me) i have both manuals to prove this.
well i accept my faith and keep working . since september last year i get a second job during off time as a in home support for one lady with disabilities that also goes to my day time job for services. the company found out last friday of my second job and i was ask to decide what job i will choose. it was an inmediate ultimatum . the sad thing is that they have the employee manual to back them up saying it is a conflict of interest .maybe i read the employee hand book two years ago...but never again ,and i certainly forgot what the book said.this come just one month before i ask for a 3 months medical leave to do a major surgery in my knees (total replacement) ...well i had to choose for the second job (no benefits) because i live in there! i will be homeless if i quit my second job!...i think they just do not want to pay for my insurance and other things for my time out and certainly does not want the burden to accomodate me after surgery,,,i do not think i can do anything about this because the manual give them all the reasons to terminate my employment...any comments? i feel is unfair..my co workers said many of them work at second jobs..(and most of thems never read the employee manual! )..
